About this tool
The Image Converter lets you convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF formats directly in your browser. All processing is done client-side using the HTML5 Canvas API — your files are never uploaded to any server. This makes it faster than server-based converters and guarantees complete privacy.
Key features include batch processing (drag and drop multiple files at once), a quality slider for fine-tuning file size vs. image quality, and instant thumbnail previews with file size comparisons. The tool supports images up to 30MB each and works entirely offline once the page is loaded.
Common use cases: converting product photos to WebP for better web performance, saving logos as PNG for transparency, reducing JPG quality to meet email attachment limits, and batch-converting a folder of screenshots to a consistent format.
How to use
- Add your images. Drag and drop one or more images onto the upload zone, or click to browse. JPG, PNG, and WebP files are accepted. Batch processing is fully supported.
- Choose your output format. Select JPG, PNG, or WebP from the dropdown. Adjust the quality slider if desired — 85% is a good default for web images. Note that PNG output is always lossless and ignores the quality setting.
- Convert. Click the Convert button. Each image is processed locally in your browser. Results show a thumbnail preview with the original and new file sizes.
- Download. Click Download on individual results, or use Download All to save every converted image at once. Use Clear to reset and convert a new batch.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images really private? Are they uploaded anywhere?
Yes, completely private. All image processing uses the HTML5 Canvas API and runs locally in your browser. Your images never leave your device — nothing is uploaded to any server. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads; the converter works fully offline.
What is AVIF and should I use it?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a next-gen image format based on the AV1 video codec. It achieves 30-50% smaller file sizes than WebP at equivalent quality. Use AVIF for modern sites; provide a WebP or JPEG fallback via <picture> for older browsers.
Why does the quality slider have no effect on PNG output?
PNG uses lossless compression, which means every pixel is preserved exactly as-is. The quality setting only applies to lossy formats (JPG and WebP). If you need a smaller PNG file, try reducing the image dimensions or converting to WebP instead, which supports both lossy and lossless modes.
Which format should I use for my website?
WebP is the recommended format for web use — it produces files 25-35% smaller than equivalent JPG or PNG and is supported in all modern browsers. Use PNG for images requiring transparency or sharp edges (logos, icons, screenshots). Use JPG if you need maximum compatibility. AVIF gives the best compression but check browser support first.
Does this tool work on mobile devices?
Yes. The Image Converter works in any modern browser on iOS and Android. You can convert images directly from your phone's photo library. No app installation required.
